 – The 2011 Veterans Day Parade is Saturday November 12, 2011 on Hanley Road from Barry Road south to Paula Drive. The Parade starts at 10:00am and continues until about 12:30pm.
The Parade staging area on Armand Dr next to Morgan Woods Elementary School opens at 7:00am and participants are urged to arrive early as Hanley Road and all cross streets will close at 9:00 A.M. starting at Hillsborough Avenue north to Waters Avenue.
The Parade will start at 10:00 A.M. with a flyover by the 6th Air wing from MacDill Air Force Base. The parade will start with the MacDill Honor Guard marching South on Hanley Rd from Barry Rd. followed by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Marshall Colonel Lenny J. Richoux Commander, MacDill Air Force Base and 6th Air Mobility Wing and his family.
The 2011 Veteran’s Day Parade Honoree is Army Staff Sgt. Joseph F. Fuerst Iii, 26 of Tampa, Fl, USA. Sgt. Fuerst was a member of the U.S. Army Ssg, Hhc, 53d Infantry Brigade, Pinellas Park, Fl Kan Dahar, Afghanistan. Sgt. Fuerst was training Afghan National Army soldiers in the Panjwayi District of Kandahar Province in Afghanistan. The evening of 24 June 2006, his service to others came to an abrupt end. Small arms and rocket propelled grenade (RPG) fire fatally wounded Staff Sergeant Joe Fuerst as he was leading a mission in support of Operation Mountain Thrust. Over the course of his Army service, Joe earned several awards and medals including the Bronze Star with “V” (valor) device. He is survived by his wife Tara Fuerst and his parents Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Fuerst II.
Radio Disney is broadcasting live from the Westshore Pizza parking lot on the Northwest corner of Hanley Rd and Jackson Springs Rd. They will have games and prizes before the parade.
The bands from Freedom High School, Leto High School, Webb Middle School, and W. G. Pierce Middle School will be performing this year. The Alonzo High School, Gather High School, and Hillsborough High School JROTC programs along with the American Victory Division U.S. Navy Sea Cadets and United States Naval Sea Cadet Corp Tampa Bay Division are marching to support our troops
