Tampa Bay Veterans Parade

We are suspending the 2024 Veterans Parade out of respect for our community. Our hearts go out to our friends and neighbors who are suffering from the impact of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. We will return in 2025. God bless.

Accompanied by the Patriot Riders
Philip is a 94-year-old originally from Reading, Pennsylvania, who at the age of 18 joined the United States Air Force, serving from 1949 to 1953. He acquired the rank of Staff Sargent. This Korean War Era Veteran followed the footsteps of his two brothers and sister, who had joined the military during WWII.

Philip became very proficient in Early Radar Advances during the cold war while serving in Alaska. He saw the phasing out of the B-29 and the introduction of its replacement, the B-37 and experienced flying over the North Pole in a B-29. Philip worked on the State-of-the-Arts Communication Advances in the early 50’s.

Upon leaving military life, his technical knowledge was put to good use. As the race for space was in full swing, he had a front row seat in the battle over technology between the USA and the Soviet Union. His 20-year-tenure with Boeing Aircraft allowed him the opportunity to contribute to many programs, including the “Star Wars Program” and the development of the first working infrared device, which created the first television remote control.

Philip Woodwell finally retired in the early 1990’s to Tampa Bay Florida where he and his family have lived for over 30 years.
